THINGS TO DO IN MARCH

The work you do in March will pay dividends later!

March is the month when things really start to move in the growing season and it’s definitely the time to start looking at your garden and planning for the months ahead.

Here are some tips on what you could be doing:

• Fork over your soil and add nutrients for the plants.
• Now is a good time to test your soil.
• Turnover your compost pile.

• Now’s the time to do some weeding and move any trees or shrubs, but you need to hurry.
• Prepare the vegetable garden for planting.

• Repair damaged lawns with fertilizer and feed.
• Give bulbs that have finished blooming some fertilizer using a bulb booster or bone meal.

• The thawing and freezing we have experienced can lift plants, take a quick look to ensure all yours are in the soil and if not just give them a gentle tread down.

• Roses can be pruned this month and now is the time to start feeding them.
• You can even start to spray for black spot.

• Winter flowering Jasmine can be pruned after flowering and Honeysuckle can be cut back.
• Now is the time to sow summer seeds indoors.
• Plant Primroses and Pansies.

If you have a greenhouse now is the time to take cuttings of wintered over plants.

We can still get late frosts so don’t plant your bedding plant out.

There is still time to transplant large trees too.

Spring is nearly here! It's time to start enjoying your garden.
